And another college on the list.
This time I didn’t have to wait long to be booked to return.
They are talking about running a staff only training session in June
Here we go again.
Another week at Kirklees College.
Day 1 of 5
This time, with a specialist presenter for HomeAssistant
Day 2 of 5
Day 3 of 5
Day 4 of 5
Day 5 of 5
I’ve just realised that I haven’t put a single post up about the 10 days I’ve spend at Kirklees College with all their Electrical and Plumbing students in March.
To say it was intense would be an understatement.
We had an absolute blast of a time and the students really engaged.
The college now has Four Velbus training bays and their own portable unit that they will take into senior schools to entice the next generation.
Last week, I was at Northampton College for an employer engagement session, where various people were on site to encourage the students to continue with their training.
I’ve redesigned the demo unit ( yet again
) to make life easier for the staff at colleges to move them between rooms.
An interlocking wheeled base unit will go with them, for keeping teaching aids and spare parts in.
These units are large enough to accommodate future upgrades and give the students plenty of room to really see how the kit links together.
They also have a 4-pole connector on the rear so that multiple cases can be linked together to create more complex setups.
There’s also a large wall display going into this college, which will include heating controls.
I really really really really wish I could say more about what this is and why I’m here.
You’ll just have to wait for the TV show to come out…
Hmmmm… Dancing with the Velbus? Must be the Velbus? Velbus Factor? ![]()
Not quite…
But close
This is the most I’m allowed to share

After the hand over of this project, the executive director looked me in the eyes with a massive smile and said, “This has been our most technology reveal in 26 years and I LOVE IT”
I can’t wait to see how he edits the hours and hours of footage into a 50 minute show.
I met Craig Galen at the FOSdem event a few years ago, who is a lecturer at Southampton University.
We have been working with his students to further their understanding of Smart Building controls.
This video is their end of project summary.
My heartfelt thanks to the team at openHAB for inviting me to FOSDem in the first place and for all the great things that have happened since.
It’s great to see Velbus being taken seriously by highly respected educational centers.
Just a shame that the AI Transcription can’t recognise the spoken word “Velbus” ![]()
We’re at it again
We’ve been invited to take part in this year’s “Children in Need” special episode of DIY SOS.
As normal, we can’t share any details until it has been broadcast… but…
Standby for more information
Here we are again, this is the last #DIYSOS build we’ll be doing…
This year.
It’s cost a small fortune for these three, but the results have been amazing.
This team have been amazing.
We met up the day before the start of this build and within 20 minutes they were all up to speed with what we needed to do.
This is the recipient family’s Facebook post
I can’t wait to provide the link to the episode.
On a very serious note, if you’re an installer, please do use this Television exposure to your own advantage.
But, be careful with your wording.
The BBC get very twitchy if we use their content as an advert.
However…
Covert promotions that put the recipients, charities and “isn’t it great what #DIYSOS have done” messages first, are perfectly fine.
So please do attract customers by supporting the episodes Velbus is used in and telling the world that you are capable of delivering the same magic.
This episode is now available to watch on the BBC iplayer
How you access that… is a different question
The first #DIYSOS project that we got involved with now has a date for going to air.
Gladiators Special
DIY SOS
Series 34
Episode 5 of 5In East Yorkshire, Nick and the DIY SOS team step in to help a youth club that has lost its home – and this time, they’re joined by the Gladiators. The Cherry Tree Community Centre once gave local children a warm, safe place to play, make friends and find support. But when the pandemic hit, their building was turned into a food pantry, now helping more than 150 families every week. Nearly five years on, the youth club has nowhere permanent to go, meeting in the local park with nothing but a small gazebo for shelter.
With another bitter winter on the way and the club close to closing for good, the DIY SOS team – with muscle, humour and heart from the Gladiators – take on the challenge of building a new, purpose-built youth centre on the edge of the park. And with only nine days to turn an empty patch of grass into a safe, welcoming home, the pressure is huge.
Expect mud, chaos and a massive show of community spirit as Beverley comes together to give its young people a place they can finally call their own.
