Is it possible to use double button mode with double tapping the button in stead of long pressing it?
As example: I have now on a button a button a dimmer programmed (dim at long press, toggle at short press). But, I want to use that button also for an “all off”. So when I double program that, and I try to dim, I activate the all off.
Yes, I find the “multi” button setting really useful.
Most of our rooms have at least 3 sets of lights (in-ceiling downlights, pendants, 5A sockets). My office has 6 different sets of lights, plus outside wall-lights.
Using one button for each group of lights is OK but you soon get fed up with pressing multiple buttons to set the lighting right for a purpose like watching TV or dining. And if I accidentally I mess with my wife’s favourite dim setting (on long-press to dim) for some purpose then I am in trouble and it is awkward to hold dim buttons again back-and-forth until the setting is right again… so I just pre-set the desired dim-levels of multiple lights into one setting.
None of my switches have more than four buttons so I program the extra “moods” onto PB5 to PB8 and set one of PB1 to PB4 to cycle between them.
Once you get used to this is is quite instinctive to press a button rapidly two to three times to go straight to the setting you want.
I found another unusual use also…at my office I have one button set to “reverse-step-dim” the lights over my desk.
1st press = bright, 2nd press = dim.
I have to go from bright to dim because the fancy italian designer lamps that my wife chose do not come on if you straight to dim (not even with VMB4C + finder slave) , but if you turn them on bright first, even briefly, then they can go dim afterwards OK.
I also use some long presses here and there, and step dimming. Very rarely I also use the regular long-press to dim actions. All are useful in different locations. If there was a double-tap setting I would probably make use of that too but the multi mode can be set-up to do something similar.
I should add: One of the best things about using Velbus for me is that it is so easy to set-up a “simple” initial setup with new house + lights… eg. one button to on/off one group of lights on a room. That lets you test everything and see what works best, see how you want to light each room. Then later it is very easy to make incremental changes…a small tweak here and there. And if a change is not comfortable I can easily and quickly undo it and try something else.
I have ended up with some settings very different to how I started. This would have been impossible with regular AC switches; and difficult with a restricted-access system like KNX.
