GU10 dimmable LED bubls for VMBDM

Hi,

I have a VMBDM for my living room, which currently consistes of 7 x 30W GU10 halogen lights. They are the most used lights in the house, so running at 350w make sense to look at low energy alternatives. So, looking for a bit of advice on the following:-

  1. Any recommended GU10 replacement dimmable led bulbs that people are using with VMBDMI ?
  2. Alterhative low voltage type solution that will work with a vmbdmi and be an easy physical replacement for a GU10 fitting.

Much appreciated.
Thanks,
Eamon

Was looking at these lightrabbit.co.uk/3-5-watt-g … alent.html

If anyone has any opinions or alternative options would appreciate. Pricedat 9.70 euro each seems reasonable for a dimmable led!

Careful:

The specs say: • These dimmable GU10 bulbs are unlikely to adequately work when used with a conventional “Leading Edge” dimmer switch. Instead it is highly recommended that you change any existing fittings for a dedicated “Trailing Edge dimmer” which offers soft start, smooth control and silent running.

Your VMBDMI is a leading edge dimmer, so most likely it will not work.

In our experience, even bulbs that state that they can be dimmed with a leading edge dimmer behave odd in most cases.
The only way to know is to try.

Hi,

Its the older vmb1dm I have, is that leading or trailing edge ? On the pdf page 5 it says The electronnic transmformer must be suitable for trailing edge dimmer"

Also, any receommended bulb types or makes that velleman can advise on. Its about 80 euros worth of bulbs I need to buy, so not really optional to try and see how I get along.

Ah, your subject said ‘VMBDMI’.

Anyway, yes, the older type can be configured for leading or trailing edge, but still, we do not recommend to go out and buy 7 bulbs.
Get one and check if it works. As we said before, we cannot guarantee it will work, even if the manufacturers claim it will…

Yeah, sorry it did, I changed it

I will buy the bulbs so (the retailer has agreed to refund if not). If they work, then I’ll update with the model number etc for info. Apart fromthe elading/trailing edge issue, what other specific concerns are there with regards funcionality ?

Is dim level a concern, or is there a potential of them not dimmingto 0% (off) ?

Eamon

Problems that can occur:

Very limited dimming range
flicker
reduced lifespan of the led bulb
odd behaviour of the dimmer circuit
a combination of the above
