Turn off LED retroaction during the night

Hi,

I have VMBEL modules in my bedroom but the retroaction LEDs are making too much light in the dark in my opinion, so I turned them off.

However, I would like the LEDs to turn on let’s say at 7am and to automatically turn off at 10pm. But I have absolutely no idea how to configurate such a program on retroaction LEDs.

Does anyone have any idea how to proceed?

Thank you for your help!

I don’t know how to do it, but I need the same feature. If there is no access to LEDs from actions - something we could ask the Velbus team for, Same for switching off display on gpods at a certain time.

Hi

As they are VMBEL modules, you have a whole load of Module actions you can use.

Set yourselves up a single “button” (or pair of buttons if you prefer) on a panel somewhere that will be your “Night” & “Day” triggers.
(These could just as easily be a IsDark & IsLight trigger from an outdoor PIR etc)

All you need to do is add a “1707 Set Ambient Colour” to OFF actions against the Night trigger

and a “1711 Reset Ambient colours” to the DAY trigger

(You can also try “1701 Override colour” and “1705 Undo Override colour” actions)

Here’s a VLP file with two edge lit virtual panels in as an example
Setting ambient at time.vlp (118.5 KB)

I took this a stage further for a client who has FOUR young daughters, who loved waking up at sunrise and " sharing the joy of being alive with their parents "
(those aren’t the words the client used to describe the experience)

I set the alarm times of the glass panels in each bedroom to suit each young ladies’ routine.

A little before bedtime, the panels turn orange

At bedtime, they turn dark red

about half an hour after bedtime, the panels would go off

About half an hour before Wake UP the panels would turn dark red again

At wake up, they turn green

Half an hour after wake up, they reset to whatever colours had been selected for daytime use.

These simple rules were issued and within two weeks, the house was harmonious again.

  • Orange = go to bed
  • RED = Sleep / stay in room
  • GREEN = House is awake and everyone can do daytime things

Hi MDAR, thanks a lot for the solution and the VLP file! It’s configured and working perfectly.

As for the little story, very nice idea to implement! I’ll configurate the retroaction to turn red until 10am in order to relax for a good part of the morning. We’ll see if it works with my kids

10 AM How on earth do you get your little ones to stay asleep until then?

or when you say “kids”, do you mean Teenagers

In which case, maybe make the panels FLASH RED and connect a Klaxon to the trigger on the back?

FYI

These work very well when connected to the tiny output on the Edge Lit panels

(Yellow wire is the trigger)

Hi MDAR, I’m using a same sort of routine here to keep the kids in their bed.
But how are your timers programmed?
The thing is that bedtime hour shifts in time. Is this something you can change on the modules or you always need to go to Velbus Programming?

Yeah, all I did was map the events as offsets from the Wake & Bed times in each module (in local mode) and expose those times to a UI in openHAB.

(Just as easy to do in NodeRed etc)

Currently, the parents adjust those times, but I’m sure in the coming years each occupant of the rooms will adjust them to suit.

(The heating events are also mapped to those times, as can the dimming up of the room lights)

Same old sentiment, “anything is possible”
