Turn ON relay, THEN set dimmer brightness

Hello !

I need to be able with a wall switch (VMBGP4) to turn on a relay, and after it is turned on, set the brightness on a dimmer to 20%.
(the dimmer is on the relay’s circuit, so that the LEDs can turn off completely, otherwise even with 0% the dimmer keeps some LEDs ON)

With the current set-up, my dimmer goes to 100% instead of the 20% requested, I guess because it doesn’t have the time to be powered ON first before sending the brightness request….

So I’d need
1- relay turn ON
2- wait 0.1sec
3- dimmer set brightness to 20%

How can I achieve that?

Thank you

Hi @1aranzant ,

There are multiple solutions, but I would personally do it this way:

  1. Use your VMBGP4 button to turn on the relay (action on)
  2. Let the relay start a timer of 0.1 seconds to turn on a virtual relay
  3. That virtual relay sets the brightness to 20%

If I understood correctly, is this what I’m supposed to do?

because this doesn’t work, the Dimmer still goes to 100%

I also tried with 412. Restartable timer

EDIT: I guess the issue is because of the way it is wired. When I turn on the relay, the dimmer automatically turns on immediately to 100%, which must be creating something weird

Exactly which dimmer are you using?

I see a VMB4DC in your plan, but what is that controlling?

Is it a Finder 15.11.8.220.0400, a VMB2DC or something else?

Likewise, you don’t say what the final load is?

Is it a 12Vdc or 24Vdc led load or a mains replacement LED fitting like a GU10 or “dimmerable led fixture with attached driver”

My gut feeling at this stage is that you’re trying to resolve a design flaw in the LED fitting.

By which I mean, simply changing the LED fitting may resolve everything.

Also, are you switching the feed into the dimmer or are you off loading the output of the dimmer?
