Velbus questions

Hello,

I’m trying to get some additional information regarding the Velbus. I understand that the communication protocol is based upon the CAN bus. I would use this system to build the electric system of a new house in France. So I have 4 questions that will help me choose the right product.

Q1: Is the hardware of the Velbus devices compatible with CAN devices?
Q2: Are the various VELBUS devices certified for use in France in home electrical cabinets ?
Q3: Do the VELBUS devices use the CAN standard protocol?
Q4: You have a RS232/VELBUS and USB/VELBUS board to interface with a PC. Does it mean that you can read the status (input/output values,…) from the devices on the bus but also write (force) outputs from the connected PC (force an output to 0 if time_on exceeds 60min or current time is > 10:00PM for example)?

Thanks for any help you can provide me with.

Hereby in brief an answer to your questions:

Q1: Is the hardware of the Velbus devices compatible with CAN devices?

No. We use the CAN protocol, but we have lowered the speed and we use custom package coding.

Q2: Are the various VELBUS devices certified for use in France in home electrical cabinets ?

All units carry the CE mark

Q3: Do the VELBUS devices use the CAN standard protocol?

see Q1

Q4: You have a RS232/VELBUS and USB/VELBUS board to interface with a PC. Does it mean that you can read the status (input/output values,…) from the devices on the bus but also write (force) outputs from the connected PC (force an output to 0 if time_on exceeds 60min or current time is > 10:00PM for example)?

Yes. We will release PC software soon.
