Velbus real cabling photos?

Hi everybody !

For those who have already an installation in their house : could you publish a picture with cable and module ?
I’m working on my cabling and I don’t find it easy to realise (not complex but having multiple choices : UTP cable ? 2 wire cable for power ? 4 wire cable ???)

Thanks for your answers :unamused:

UTP cable is a good and low-cost solution.
Parallel 2 wires of each colour.

I’ve used CAT5E cabling for my home system. 8 wires can be used to handle 4x push buttons (2 wires each) or 7x push buttons with one common ground. Maybe not the best, but it works great with the relay inputs.

Oh, sorry ! my question was badly exposed !
I’m speaking about WMB4RY and other module in the switchboard (tableau électrique). It takes long time to make wire between Velbus modules and Velbus rail isn’t right for WMB1DM (if you want to let air space between them). :unamused:

For the rest, of course UTP 5e is used in wall for command (WMB8PB and VMB4PD)

I would to share my experience about Velbus integration. Here is a photo of modules in rack : one rack by floor…
At left, electrical modules (230V with C15-100 conformity), at right, Velbus modules.

Beautiful!

Thanks for the picture David, it is just amazing, I am just looking forward to do the same!

A question for you:

you decided to split the boards per floor because you prefere? or you had no choice at all?

What would you recommand? 1 board for the whole house or one per floor?

I will have 9 vmbry, 9 vmb2bl, 1vmb6in

Is this your house or an office?

unfortunely, not a choice for me : these racks are one of the biggest from schneider-electric :unamused:
but maybe I’ve to explain what’s take place

  • All rooms have a main lamp (controlled with VMB4RY) and an ambiant light (controlled with VMB1DM)
  • All rooms have a blind (VMB2BL)
  • All rooms have 3x2 electrical plug (permanent 230v) and 3x1 controlled electrical plug (VMB4RY + bipolar xxxx? sorry my english is not good enough  )
  • All rooms have 1 VMB4PD + VMB1TS
  • All rooms have 2x4 Push buttons NIKO (used on VMB8PB)
  • 1 VMB6IN by floor (for future use) and 1 VMB1TC
  • 1 FIT-PC with WinXP to add more capacity (roll up blind when sun get up or change dynamicaly functions, etc.)

That’s my house and it’s a dream for me that come reality… and maybe, I’ll start my own enterprise (domotic designer ?) :unamused:
Or maybe Velbus (pre)sales engineer… (waiting for an offer)

Bravo Golfy,

Ton anglais est parfait.(Je reviens à l’anglais pour pas me faire taper sur les doigts par l’admin!)

You have a lot of modules included in your house wow, i am myself working on the final details of my house plans and blue prints.

I will have almost 44 light zones.
And 50 plugs. I did not decide if I am going to control the plugs? Is it important?exxept for switching on the TV, Am I missing something?

I will use
9 vmb4ry (36 zones)
9 Vmb1dm (9 zones)
8 vmb2bl (16 blinds) I actually need just 11 blinds, but just in case (for the pool may be)!
1 vmbp4 in the whole house, I dont see the point of having one in every floor or room, since you can program macros in vmpb8 (like switch all off)…correct me if I am wrong.

and I am planning on designing my own switches with brushed metal plates and led push buttons of different colors for each functions.

what software do you have in your fit pc to control velbus?

I will post some pictures of my bench test, ugly but its for testing purpose only, right?!

I wish you good luck for your dream, I know what you mean.

concerning, starting a business with velbus product, seems to be a good Idea, but it will be really perfect if you can flash the firmware yourself to update the modules, not everyone is in europe (shipping costs),and the new price of the moduls is just so high with respect to the old one (2007)

You’re right but I plan to use LCD screen to show other information and maybe to be controlled by my own software (through FIT-PC)

Would really see the result :astonished:

I would programming one in Purebasic. FIT-PC collect information about EDF counters (power and PV) and I would collect time UP for lamps, temperature in each pieces and some thongs like this. I plan to make an alarm and a screen for remote access (HTML ?).

Any experience is good to share

just boring about my job (security pre-sales engineer) and my compagny… but really need to make domotic affordable to make business ! I think I’m not “sales” enough but more engineer, so design in buildings and houses could be a way, software developper an other way… :unamused:

Have a good luck on your project and to everybody, don’t hesitate to share experience, even small

What I mean by 44 zones is 44 relays, may be in one room I will have 3 zones:
For exemple
1st:10 lamps on the same circuit
2nd:2plugs on the same circuit
3rd:2 lamps on the same circuit

For the plugs you are right I should forcast a couple of modules for VMC, Hifi and other appliances!
I am interested about your software, can you send me some screen shots?I can even help in the developpement, I am an MIS guy, at least I can give it a shot

Software project is public but just at the beginning. You can download a free version of Purebasic to run it (simply copy/paste code to Purebasic editor)

An other picture about cabling : Velbus sells small parts to rely modules but VMB1DM need extra free place (for temperature when dimming). So I’ve done all with cables. Black/Black-Red cable is HiFi cable (better for power transport). In the rack, I use 2 wires (no big lengh) but in the house, I’ve sold 2 wire each time :
brown/brow-white are sold (and used for H BUS)
green/green-white are sold (and used for L BUS)
orange/orange-white are sold (and used for +12V)
blue/blue-white are sold (and used for +12V)

Impressionant!
The litle box , right picture, you use it to terminate vmbp8 cable ?
where did you buy it?

This is an electric box : boite étanche, clic here = 1€
However, I’ve bought connector (green) and wire circuit at Conrad (or electronic reseller), for 31€ (20 green connectors to sold on wire circuit 5.08")
For VMB8PB, they’re behind Niko switch (in the classical box)… but not big place there  I’ve some pictures on my phone but it needs to be synchronized to get them on my PC.

By the way, cabling could include VMB8PB, no ?

EN: Yes, VMB8PB could be set in smalls round electric box with Niko push-buttons modules.
Each wire has been twiced for better power support on longer cable (> 10-15m) because one cable could connect many VMB4PD or VMB8PB.
