Every VMBELx module has one module output on the back. I would like to use the output for a small piezo buzzer but I cannot find electrical specs. (push-pull, open collector, voltage, max current …)
Hi
It’s an open collector connection.
The three pins present
0v
Bus voltage
Collector
(I can’t remember the pin out, but easy to test.
Actually, the pin out is definited right by the connection)
I use it to drive Arduino relay boards, PWM drivers and more recently a 12V doorbell with 0v trigger.
Where Red & Black are connected to Bus V+ and 0V
Without looking, I’m fairly sure I connected the Yellow core to the collector pin.
FYI
All V2.0 glass panels now have this connection.
In a 3 connection black header socket.
V1 Edge Lit panels use a small white Molex socket.
Thanks for info, looks perfect.
Just one more connector to have. I ordered following … hope it will fit
Which type of JST is that? I keep a supply of JST-XH, JST-PH, and JST micro-SH.
Various JST connectors are always handy to have but it can be hard to tell what you need just by looking. I like to test-fit something before making a lead.
I buy the SH with leads as they are a bit small and fiddly to assemble reliably by hand but the XH and PH are a bit bigger and can be hand-crimped more easily.
Two of the above types are common as 4x connectors for I2C (eg. sensors) and qwiic on SparkFun break-out boards is the tiny one.

for the others I picked up these…

So far those 3 types have covered everything I have needed.
FYI
These are the connectors required for the V1 glass panel outputs

Micro jst connectors will arive soon.
I hope they will fit (they have at least 1.25mm pitch and should be molex compatible).
If not, I will try to order from farnell (farnell belgium does not accept private orders so it’s always a bit tricky, especially for just a few connectors).
Keep you informed …
How many do you need?
Maybe someone at Velbus can arrange for some via your normal supplier?
Just tell them that “MDAR isn’t the only person that uses these great outputs”
It would be nice if Velbus
- Included a suitable wired connector to each edge lit module (just like they include the velbus connector). Adding a 10 cent connector should not make a big price difference to a 100€ upto 300€ product.
- At least document the output (electrical specs + exact connector type + distributer)
@MDAR: For now, I only need two. I still hope the ordered connectors will fit.
